Why Composting?
Composting is the process by which matter is deconstructed, decomposed and digested. It forms the basis for new life and growth.
In this space, we aim to compost the core ideas that emerge from the blog.
We also want to help readers digest our language, as some of the concepts we touch upon are not commonly used and understood.
The words we use
Language is one of the ways by which we make sense of our world. The words chose are a reflection our worldview.
Our blog encourages readers to look at the world, and our relationship with it, differently. Consequently, some of the ideas we express require words and concepts that are unfamiliar or downright odd to the ear - and eyes - of the reader.
In this glossary, we aim to define some of our key words. We also explain why they are important for changing how we perceive our place in nature.
More than Human
We often refer to humans and nature as different things, as if we are separate from nature. We are intimately part of nature, and so we want to use a different term for what is not human.
‘More than human’ attempts to address this and touch on the fact that there is much more in the world than the human experience - and that we are dependent on everything else in our world. Without the more than human, we are nothing.
Worldview
Every single human has a worldview - a model of how the world works. Often we don’t realise we have a worldview. It is like a set of lenses we see through - we don’t see how the lenses shape what we see. Since our worldview shapes how we see everything, it shapes how we act in each and every moment.
The dominant worldview in most ‘developed’ economies is one that sees the world as a machine that humans need to control to maximise human benefit.
